The beginning
The beginning of v.v. Ariston ’80 was in 1972. At that time, a number of students from the SSR-D (the predecessor of De Koornbeurs) wanted to found a football club. However, this proved impossible at the TU Delft sports centre, and so they were forced to join svv Taurus, a sub-association of student association Virgiel. Taurus plays its matches on Sundays; the new members founded the Saturday section.
The differing backgrounds and views on society held by the Virgilians and SSR-D members ultimately led to the founding of v.v. Ariston ’80. Initially, the Saturday section developed into an independent branch of Taurus, but at a General Meeting on June 6, 1980, the decision was made to become independent.

Identity
After the split, it was decided to adopt the name held by all other sub-associations of SSR-D: Ariston. In Ancient Greek, it means good, strong, or the best. It is also the name of a hero in Greek mythology. To distinguish it from the other sub-associations, the year of founding was added: Ariston ’80.
After the split, many members wanted to distinguish themselves more clearly from the yellow and black of Taurus. A competition was launched for the new club colors. Ariston ’80 3 won, with the Barcelona colors as their entry. In the early years, the association's third half often took place in De Klomp, which served as the regular pub for the footballing students for many years.
Logos
The club has gone through a number of logos. It started with the Taurus bull. In the 1980s, Jelmer Beetsma created a new one, a sort of spermatozoon. From the 1990s onwards, a number of fanatical IO members unleashed their creativity on our logo. Job Baart de la Faille modified the FC Barcelona crest. Denton Koenderink felt that a spectacular overhead kick, his trademark, belonged on the logo. The latest is by Klaas Jan Lei, the logo for the 5th anniversary and also the current logo.

Accomplishments
For a club like v.v. Ariston ’80, it proved not always easy to find a good coach in the beginning. During the first period, the lineup was determined by the Technical Committee, which included die-hard Ariston regulars such as Douwe van der Kooi, Pieter Bezemer, and Aart de Geus. There was always a trainer. Theo van Leeuwen took care of the fieldwork for the first 15 years.
The first championship was won in the first season by Ariston’80’s third team. The first championship for the flagship team took a little longer to materialize: “Citizen coach” Nico Herbert finally led the first team to first place in 1995. Worth mentioning, however, is the Delftsche Courant top scorer's trophy, won by Jimmy Tigges in 1984.
After Herbert, Rick van Leeuwen took charge of the club. In 1999, he managed to lead v.v. Ariston ’80 to the championship, resulting in the infamous boat trip (see photo). The following year, a step back was taken.
Ladies football
In 1999, a number of female futsal players decided to take up their great passion, field football, again. The ladies decided to join v.v. Ariston ’80 (see photo). The last ladies of this team only stopped playing in the 2011-2012 season, after 14 years. Ariston’80 grew by one women's team in 2018, 2019, and 2020, reaching the current total of four women's teams, including a selection team.

Current level
Throughout its history, Ariston ’80 has often come close to the 3rd class: in 2001 it was promoted to the 4th class, only to be eliminated in the play-offs in 2003 and 2005.
In the 2011-2012 season, the moment finally arrived: both the men's and women's first teams managed to secure promotion to the desired third class. The women won the championship, while the men went German-style in the play-offs, where a 0-1 defeat in the final match was enough for a huge celebration! In the seasons that followed, both teams often managed to hold their own. However, a few missteps were immediately rectified in the subsequent seasons. The women's squad even managed to gain promotion to the Second Class in 2018.
Currently, Men's 1 is competing in the sub-top of the 3rd class. Women's 1 will also be playing in the 3rd class again starting from the 2024-25 season.
